Luis Vaz de Camões is considered the greatest Portuguese poet of all times. In the "Lusiadas" heroic poem that immortalised him, he exalted the Portuguese discoveries and Vasco da Gama travelling to India. Camões was probably born in 1524 or 1525. The first editions of "Os Lusiadas" were printed in 1572.
